I’m supposed to name 6 wierd things about me and I took most of the morning to think about it.
THE RULES: Each player of this game starts with the 6 weird things about you. People who get tagged need to write a blog of their own 6 weird things as well as state this rule clearly. In the end, you need to choose 6 people to be tagged and list their names. Don’t forget to leave a comment that says you are tagged in their comments and tell them to read your blog.
#1. I can visually tell you just by looking at a nut or bolt what size wrench or socket that you need in metric. (I’m a bit rusty but I can still do it)
#2. I would rather recieve tools than jewlery. For Christmas I asked for a chordless screwdriver that can also double as a drill.
#3. I would rather work on a car engine or an appliance than do housework.
#4. I like beer and ice cream and or chocolate together.
#5. I used to get high off of air and drunk off of 7Up’s as a teen.
#6. I truely believe that I lived in another time, firm beliver in reincarnation.
Now I don’t have may people in my blog roll and one of the ones I was going to use has been taken by another good friend. A few that I would love to tag don’t have a blog, what a shame!

Carol Thomas - My Little Crochet Corner
Drew - The Crochet Dude (like he’s got time to read my blog, lol)
Yarnoholic - Cat’s in my Craft Basket (ditto)

Heck of a week and a half

It's been a fun past week and a half! Starting off with a visit from my step daugther from Virginia. She's not in the best of relationships right now, her boyfriend is an alcoholic, she's lost custody of her kids and she's in a house with no heat. She called last week to tell us that the BF had beat her, nearly breaking her nose and she wound up in jail for stabbing him in the leg with a knife. So what is a parent supposed to do? I went up after her cause she said she'd had enough.

No sooner than she gets here she starts calling home back to see what's going on. She got homesick about Wed and flipped out when she heard we where getting snow. She went back home Friday against mine and her father's better judgement. Her dad said next time she can take the bus.

I spent Friday night with my daugther, Jeannie who lives about 10 miles from the step daughter. We had a good visit with the exception of her husband who has congestive heart failure. He wasn't in good shape, his legs and feet all swollen up. The diaretic his doctor had him on wasn't helping much. He was a bit better when I left on Saturday.

When I got home Saturday I found my DH all curled up on the couch in the den with a box of tissues blowing his brains out and his nose looking like Rudolf the Red Nose Reindeer. He swore he was dying but I assured him he would live. (He always does) I fed him some Chicken Noodle soup and sent him to bed early so I could have some quiet time.

Yesterday was good, we slept in and waited for the bad weather to come. He was feeling better and I ran to the store to get a few things while he watched the football game. Becky and her boyfriend came in for a while to finish up her laundry just as we finished up dinner. Her boyfriend is always hungry and dove into a left over pork chop. Later Becky called to tell me that my darling Giana had had an accident while visiting her father.

They where playing and somehow Gi hit her mouth bruising her gums and nearly knocking out a front tooth. Becky was very angry cause the baby was not taken to a doctor while in her dad's care. Gi had her first visit to the dentist today and was a very brave girl, she did everything the dentist asked her to do. There is a good chance she won't loose her tooth and it will tighten back up, I hope so. I would hate to have her beautiful smile messed up one minute for anything.

Enough of my rant but I really needed this one. As my friend on the other side of the state would say, "Have a fine day, all day long"!

Arm being twisted!

Okay, okay so I'll post! My arm is being twisted big time and rightly so. I haven't posted anything in my blog for over 2 weeks and it's not cause I don't have anything to say, I have loads.

For starters I'm going to be a grandmother again in either August or September. My youngest daugther who just graduated college and Giana's mom is expecting again. It was a bit of a surprise for me and I think her too but we will get beyond it and hopefully have a boy this time. I've already started to crochet for the new addition!

It snowed here today although that's not surprising we also have dafodils that started to bloom a few days ago. It's not the first time I've seen both on the ground at the same time just not so soon in the year.

About a week ago in C'ville I posted a really neat shot of some vultures that had been hanging out in the trees in the front of our property. (Literally) They just pop up every year about this time just to freak me out and drive my dogs crazy. I keep hoping that they would fly off with one fo the dogs are both.
This should keep those that love me happy for a day or two, I'll write more when I get back from Virginia.

New Old Chair

Some time ago my husband, who just loves a good bargain got this chair from either the Thrift Shop or Duke Surplus for about 5 dollars. When he bought it it did look much better than this and had been recovered once since being purchased. I use it to set at my computer and either look up crochet patterns or just stare at the screen. As you can see it's been well loved and rather hard to sit on. The padding had long since worn out, the batting had seperated and getting down right uncomfortable to sit on.

Today I decided it was time to do something about it. I went to Walmart, purchased some new 2 inch foam, more batting and used some of the upholstery that was left over from having my sofa and love seat redone a few years ago.

I can now sit more comfortably and in style at my computer now. Looks so good I may be forced to clean my room. Today I finished up the last of the presants that I was making. I thought the hats were really cute, the pattern came from Annie's Attic and the mittens came from Crochet Pattern central.

I've had to put my sister's afghan on the back burner for now, after the first of the year I hope to get back to that and the Tree skirt that I'll be testing for Wanda. Getting ready for Christmas which I am no where near done, trying to get Becky's car running and getting her graduated from college. Things don't like like they are going to improve around here for sometime so I'll just have to go with the flow.

I started working on another afghan a little over a week ago and am about a third done with it. Hopefully I'll be able to work on it some in the next few days.

The highlight of our week was yesterday with the graduation of my youngest daughter from college like I said before. Here is a video clip of her getting her deploma. Don't mind her boyfriend, he was a bit excited so you can't hear her name being called out. We are all very proud of her.
http://s126.photobucket.com/albums/p100/ijbennett/?action=view&current=becky.flv

Snowflakes

Even though our weather here has been near perfect for the beginning of spring it's really the end of November and time to start thinking about getting ready for Christmas. I got these little prettys out of the current Better Homes and Gardens crochet magazine and thought I'd try a few. I've tried a few different things to get them to stiffen up like liquid starch and fabric stiffener. They work really great but for some reason I'd nearly like them to stand on their own. (May try the sugar water method just to see what happens).

Getting Ready for Turkey Day!

I got up this morning knowing that I had to start some of the stuff for tomorrow. I also had to babysit my nearly 5 year old grand daugther. This is the first year that I've not had to really rush to get ready for Thanksgiving and could give it more attention that in years past.

Before even getting my first cup of coffee in me I heard our heat pump making a funny noise so I grabbed my glasses (I'm blind as a bat without them) and looked out the back window. Even from that point of view it was hard to see what the big fan was hitting but it looked like a piece of metal. I turned off the heat pump, put on some shoes and grabbed a coat and went outside to see what it was. Low and behold it was ice inside! By the time I got outside to check on it the ice had fallen down inside the houseing so I went back inside, turned the heat pump back on and kept warm.

I'm not the most patient person in the world but I let Giana help me make my pies this year. I'd decided to try a new one that was posted on Minwifeof4boys blog "Cherries in the Snow", Giana was having so much fun helping me and licking the spoon afterward that I had to take a picture of her. I let her put all the ingrediants in the bowl before mixing it up. After doing that one we did a Sweet Potato Pie and she put all the stuff in for Granny to mix as well. A very good little helper she was!

Tory's Afghan is Finished!

I spent most of last evening and this morning finishing Tory's afghan. This is where I quit yesterday evening when my husband got home from work. At this point I had to move out the refridgerator and the stove but I was tired and someone had to thing about cooking dinner.

Today I started early with running to Home Depot for another box of tile and some heavy duty degreaser for under the stove. I don't think it had been moved in years and I was nearly afraid to look under there. We live out in the sticks and from time to time have a mouse that likes to take up residence in the stove. I wasn't really in the mood for Norman Bates today. I thought I'd take a shot of the floor underneith the stove to show that yes, it can be clean! It took nearly 2 hours just to do that little bit but then I also stopped and cleaned the sides of the stove off, nasty wasn't the word for it either.

It looks so pretty, shame to move the stove back. After I finished here I did under the fridge, only took about an hour for that. Now to get it done.!

My oldest daugther tells me that Tory asks about me all the time, "where's Granny". After doing my usual morning thing, reading my email, news online, C'ville posts and my friends blogs I got off my hiney parts and did some constructive stuff. I did 3 loads of laundery, ironed and folded 10 of my hubby's shirts, did dishes and started a pot of mixed beans that smelled so good it made my mouth water. Most all of that was done before noon too.

I'm hoping that I'm coming out of my crochet rut cause there is so much for me to do. I did managed to get 3 more squares done on Tory's afghan this afternoon. I decided that his is going to be sort of a "Mini Me" of my 63 and 63 more squares but it will only be 3 squares across and 5 down. I have the one he loves so much that he calls "My Balls" (the honecomb), the afghan square, side saddle, popcorn heart and bow ties. Can't remember the other that I've done. Becky had come by and got more of her stuff out of the house and gave me just room to get started. The first shot if of the front door and the coat wrack. The cabinet beside the front door is a pie safe my father made me out of Mahogony, picture could use a bit more lightening up.

Milo thinks he's king stuffin cause he's stollen Sheba's seat. I got a bit bored yesterday after my husband left to go see his mother and decided to take apart one of my printers. I'd been meaning to switch some parts around from the parts printer to the one I've been using for just about everything. It's a Lexmark X83 all in one copier, scanner and printer and I've had it about 5 years. Let's just say I'm now out a scanner!

Yesterday I wasn't in that great a mood and really wanted to be all by myself with the hubby being gone all weekend but even the Alone Gods were against me. After Becky got off of work she came by with Giana to use my computer. (By then I was already stressed out about not being able to get the printer going.) My granddaughter was in an out of the computer room asking for this and that and I had printer parts everywhere. Becky was reduced to using the laptop in the den to do her homework on.

Before going to bed Wanda checked in on me to see if I was feeling okay, we talked awhile and she cheered me up just by asking.

Yesterday before all the mass distruction started I did fix Tory's favorite square for his afghan, it was about 2 inches bigger than the others I've done so far. So I frogged it, looks much better now.

Can we say Cute?

This darling thing is my grandson Tory in his trick or treat outfit. I know the picture isn't that good but you sure can see his precious face. The little guy is supposed to be a frog. His mom didn't say just how much loot he got but I sure hope he had fun. Still waiting on a picuture of Giana in her costume.

I'm finally back at doing some work again, hadn't been in much of a mood to do much crocheting lately but I know if I want certain things done by Christmas I must push on. One of my other passions in life is sewing and a long time ago I asked my dad to make a sewing box for me similar to my mother's. I drug this out of my bedroom and after going through all the bags I had laying around and the drawer's of my antique machine I finally have all or most of my sewing stuff together.

The sewing box has 4 compartments that fit nicely together in one compact space, it's a bit smaller than my mother's.
